Breeze will become UMConnect on June 8, 2007

Breeze will become UMConnect on June 8, 2007.  On this date, we will upgrade the Breeze server and its services (i.e. meetings, recordings, presentations, training) to Adobe Connect Enterprise Server.  UMConnect services will not be available from 8 am to 5 pm during the upgrade.

Most of the features in Breeze 5.1 that you currently use will remain the same after the upgrade to UMConnect.  Two important features of the upgrade include:

  • Presenter 6 compatibility with Microsoft PowerPoint 2007
  • Meeting add-in compatibility with Intel Macs

To see an overview of the upgrade and a demonstration of the new features recorded in a UMConnect meeting, please see UMConnect Upgrade Information.  Details and Frequently Asked Questions regarding the upgrade to UMConnect are listed below.

What will happen to my existing Breeze content (i.e. presentations, recordings, meetings, courses or curriculum)?

Breeze 5.1 content will continue to be available after the upgrade.  URLs to Breeze content will be automatically forwarded to UMConnect URLs.

For Example if the URL for a Breeze Meeting recording is  https://breeze5.umn.edu/myrecording/, it will become https://umconnect.umn.edu/myrecording/ after the upgrade. However, anyone accessing the old URL will automatically be forwarded to the new https://umconnect.umn.edu URL.  Although this forwarding will continue until further notice, you should consider updating all links to your content after the update is complete.

Do I need to upgrade my own software (Presenter, Meeting Add-in) to use UMConnect?

If you are currently using Breeze Presenter 5.1 for PowerPoint, you can continue to publish presentations to the UMConnect server. You will need to update the URL for the server to https://umconnect.umn.edu/. Presenter 6 will be available once the upgrade is complete. A link to download Presenter 6 will be posted on the UMConnect support site under "Get UMConnect."

There is a new meeting add-in available for UMConnect. If you sign into a meeting as a host or presenter you will be prompted to download and install the new meeting add-in.

Please note that you will need administrator rights in order to install Presenter 6 or the meeting add-in for UMConnect.

Will my existing Breeze presentations still work?  Do I have to republish them with Presenter 6?

The upgrade to UMConnect will not affect the playback of your existing Breeze presentations and will not automatically upgrade your content to Presenter 6.  You will not need to republish your presentations to Presenter 6 unless you want to use the new features.  If you are upgrading to Microsoft Office 2007, you will need to download and install Presenter 6.  Breeze Presenter 5.1 is not compatible with Microsoft PowerPoint 2007.

Where do I go for support with UMConnect?

After the upgrade, email support will be available at umconnect@umn.edu. The UMConnect support site will be www.umn.edu/umconnect.  The current Breeze Support site and Breeze Support email will be available until the upgrade and will be forwarded to these new addresses after the upgrade.

Where do I go for UMConnect training?

Training for UMConnect and Presenter is available through University Technology Training Services (UTTC) at http://uttc.umn.edu/.
